10 Montessori-Aligned Pikler Triangle Activity Ideas

What is the Pikler triangle?

The Pikler Triangle is a climbing frame invented by Dr. Emi Pikler. Dr Pikler believed in natural development – kids should learn at their own pace by their own schedule.

The Pikler triangle encourages natural development by allowing children to explore propping themselves up to stand and then try and climb the frame all on their own and at their own time.

Since the Pikler Triangle is only about 3 feet tall it provides a safe environment for children to test their boundaries.

10 Pikler Triangle Activities

1 – Race Cars

We like to use our Pikler triangle to race cars down the slide. You can also roll down balls or animal figurines and see which ones slide down the ramp faster.

2 – Animal Rescue

Tape animal figurines on the ramp and on the triangle so your child can rescue them by removing the tape.

Another way of playing this game is by tying the figurines on the frame. Have your child work on his fine motor skills by untying the ribbons and saving the animals figurines.

3 – Build a tent or a reading nook

Place a blanket over the triangle and you have the perfect little reading nook for your little one.

4 – Build a tunnel

Place pillows and blankets over the Pikler triangle to make a fun tunnel to go through.

5 – Car Garage

Have your child park all the cars you have under the pikler triangle.

6 – Make an Obstacle Course

Make an obstacle course by using pillows, cones, hoops or anything you have handy.

7 – Hide and Seek / Peek-a-boo

One of our favorite games to play is hide and seek and the Pikler triangle is one of our son’s favorite hide out.

8 – Marble Run

Create a marble run by taping blocks on the slide and rolling balls down the slide instead of marbles (to prevent choking hazard).

9 – Sticky Note Game

Place sticky notes on the Pikler triangle and have your child remove them. You can also place a couple of different colors of sticky notes and make this a color matching game.

10 – Create your own Bowling Alley

Create your own bowling alley by placing the slide on the floor. On one end of the slide place the bowling pins and have your child roll the balls from the opposite side.
